Setting GPRS Authentication protocol on CN3

A common issue that prevents a CN3 from establishing a GPRS connection is a mismatch between the authentication protocols used by device and network. If your SIM card is provisioned for a particular APN, and you have configured the APN, username and password correctly, yet you still cannot connect, try changing the protocol in Start -> Settings -> System -> WAN Info. By default it is set to "PAP\CHAP" which will try a variety of protocols in turn. This fallback approach doesn't work with all APNs. If this is the case with your APN, select "PAP" or "CHAP" and try connecting again. Which one you need will be determined by the network, or whoever is hosting the authentication server for a particular APN.

Re: Setting GPRS Authentication protocol on CN3

You can configure this setting in the Registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL]

"SetGPRSAuthentication"=dword:x

where x is

0 = None

1 = PAP

2 = CHAP

3 = PAP/CHAP (default)

There is no need to reboot after changing this value, as it will be read before every GPRS connection attempt.
