Intermec Enters Strategic Partnership with ecom instruments

Intermec is excited to announce a new partnership with ecom instruments, a worldwide operating manufacturer of intrinsically safe mobile solutions for over 25 years.

 

Intermec and ecom have partnered to develop and deliver an innovative and explosion-protected mobile computer product for key markets requiring computing solutions for hazardous environments in 2012.

 

This relationship will leverage Intermec’s rugged mobile computer experience and ecom’s competence in developing portable intrinsically safe devices to bring to market leading solutions that are approved for use in hazardous areas. ecom’s technology ensures worldwide certifications for use in explosive atmospheres, ranging from global IECEx, European ATEX to the North American NEC approvals required by refineries, chemical plants, and pharmaceuticals, among others. Together,Intermec and ecom will address market demand for innovative mobile computing solutions that can withstand the rigors of use within the most hazardous environments.

 

Here is what VDC's David Krebs says about the partnership:

We hope this leads to a generation of NI and Intrinsic scanners usable in North America! Looks like a great fit!

  • Mike Hansen works in the Technology Office as Staff Engineer based in Everett, Wash. He is responsible for the wireless WPAN, WLAN, and WWAN technology direction for Intermec product portfolios. As part of his role, Mike collaborates with Engineering, Marketing, and Technical Partners to establish the technical direction and system engineering leadership in wireless capabilities for Intermec products.
